I have decided to host my very first giveaway, and the response it gets will help me gauge interest and determine how many giveaways I’ll be doing in the future. So help me make it a big deal, OK?

The giveaway is small (since it’s my first :) ), but hopefully enough to entice a few people to enter. I’m giving away a $5 Amazon Gift Card. Actually, it’s a code that you redeem for $5 (not a physical card), but five bucks is five bucks, right? So here is how you can earn your entries:

  • Leave a relevant comment on any other post on my blog: 1 entry – note, this is only good for one extra entry, so there’s no need to go nuts & leave a comment on every post. :)

I also wanted to update you on another deal which has made the rounds this week; the CVS $10 ECB when you buy 3 American Express Gift Cards. I was thinking to myself, “hey, why not buy these, and just use them to pay for my future CVS purchases. Instant moneymaker!” When I got to the store, however, I found out this wouldn’t quite work.

You see, the smallest dollar amount these gift cards are available in is $25, and each $25 card carries an additional $3.95 “activation fee.” And these activation fees are even higher for the $50 and $100 GCs. So, while the $10 ECB would have helped offset these activation fees if I had actually needed the cards for gifts…let’s just say all of my Christmas shopping was done before I even got called away for my family emergency (thank goodness!), so I had little use for this “deal.”

I know this deal made the rounds of all the couponing sites back at the beginning of the month, but I did this deal myself today, and wanted to give y’all an update. I also wanted to apologize for once again being absent for over a week. Unfortunately, I had to travel halfway across the country to take care of a family emergency, and didn’t get back until late Monday night.

The Carraba’s deal sounded like this: you buy a $100 gift card, and you get another gift card worth $20 for free. Not a bad deal, if anyone on your gift list likes Carraba’s! However, what I didn’t know before doing the deal was this: the $20 card is only good from 1/10/2010 to 2/10/2010. That’s right, you’ve got only one month to use it. It’s also not a regular gift card; it can’t be used on alcohol, tax or gratuity (which doesn’t surprise me), it can’t be sold, it can’t be used with any other discount or offer (e.g. coupons), and if you use it for less than the $20 you will forfeit the remaining amount, as it must be relinquished at time of use.

While I have no problem with any of these restrictions personally, I thought others might be interested in the fine print. The only one that really surprised me was that it was only good for the one-month window, but I’m sure we can manage to visit Carraba’s during that time period!

Well, I just got an email this morning that Marble Slab Creamery (store locator here) is offering an extra $5 gift card with every $35 gift card purchased during the month of December. There was also an offer in the email to print out, that will net you either a buy one, get one free on an original with a mixin, or, buy an original with mixin and get $3 off a cake.
